Best Wedding Cake Ever!

This is a beautifully decorated wedding cake shaped like a groom’s tuxedo and a bride’s dress. Since it’s a cake, I can help you with a recipe for a classic vanilla butter cake with buttercream frosting that you can use to create a similar cake at home.

Classic Vanilla Butter Cake with Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 2 ½ cups (315g) all-purpose flour

  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 ¾ cups (350g) granulated sugar

  • 4 large eggs, room temperature

  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk, room temperature

For the Buttercream Frosting:

  • 1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, softened

  • 4 cups (500g) powdered sugar, sifted

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2- 4 tbsp milk or heavy cream

  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

Make the Cake:

1.  Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9x13 inch cake pans or 3 8-inch round cake pans.

2.  In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

3.  In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).

4.  Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.

5.  Alternately add the flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.

6.  Divide the batter evenly into the prepared pans.

7.  Bake for 25-30 minutes (round pans) or 35-40 minutes (sheet pans), or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

8.  Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Make the Buttercream Frosting:

1.  Beat the softened butter on medium speed until creamy (about 2 minutes).

2.  Gradually add powdered sugar, about 1 cup at a time, beating on low speed until fully incorporated.

3.  Add vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.

4.  Add milk or heavy cream, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating on high speed until you reach your desired consistency. Frosting should be smooth and spreadable.

Decorating Tips for the Wedding Cake Look:

  • Divide the cake into two halves: one for the tuxedo side, one for the bridal dress side.

  • For the tuxedo side: use black food coloring to tint a portion of the frosting and cover that half of the cake. Use white fondant or frosting to create shirt details and buttons. Add a yellow or gold bow tie made from fondant or edible decorations.

  • For the bridal dress side: pipe rosette designs with white or ivory buttercream frosting using a star tip. Add pearl-like edible beads to mimic jewelry on the dress. You can also use fondant for a smoother finish if desired.
